Our Story
We couldn't find a soap that checked every box. So we spent two years making one.
We were tired of choosing between bars that smelled great and bars our skin actually liked. After dozens of formulas, long cure times, scent tests and plenty of failed batches, we created the bar we had been looking for ourselves. We refused to launch until we perfected a bar that stayed firm, smelled great, and left skin feeling truly comfortable.
Sometimes, you just need to go somewhere else.
Maybe it’s a trail through the pines. A rocky shoreline along Lake Michigan. Black sand beneath your feet. Or somewhere you’ve never been, but can picture it perfectly. That feeling is behind what we create at Compass. From the shape of each bar to its design and name, our products are created to remind you of a place, a memory, or an adventure waiting to happen. Because connecting back to nature doesn’t always require packing a bag. Sometimes, it starts right where you are.
made the slow way
Six weeks. No shortcuts.
Every Compass bar starts with us, made in small batches using the cold-process method. Each loaf is poured, cut, and then left to cure for a full six weeks before it's ready to head your way.
A proper cure gives water time to evaporate, creating the harder, longer-lasting bar we set out to make in the first place.

When we first started Compass, we were focused on making a bar of soap we genuinely loved using. We didn't know exactly where it would lead.
Since then, we've sold more than 15,000 bars, traveled to shows and markets across the US, found our way into shops, expanded beyond soap, and met a lot of the people who have made Compass part of their everyday lives.
Along the way, we've heard what people love, what they come back for, what they want to see next. We carry that with us as Compass continues to grow.
We're proud of where Compass started, but we're even more excited about where it's headed.

Meet Sara & Michele
We’re Sara and Michele, the co-founders behind Compass Soap Co. On any given week, you might find us making soap, cutting and curing bars, packing orders, developing new products, prepping for a show, talking with wholesale partners, troubleshooting something that definitely wasn’t on the schedule, or dreaming up what Compass could do next.
We’ve worn a lot of hats since starting Compass, and our roles continue to change as the company grows. What hasn’t changed is how connected we are to the products we make, the people who use them, and the direction we want to take the brand.
Compass has always been a reflection of our love of nature and our belief that even something as routine as a bar of soap can have a story behind it.
